Dreaming of a luxury adventure in the fjords of Norway? We would love to hear from you.
Be inspired by the Norwegian way of living.
The old town of Ålesund is divided by a channel connecting two fjords and Hotel Brosundet lies in the middle, on the west side. Both buildings hail to the times all fishing trade happened in the center of town. You will be staying at an historical site – one of them listed – and experiencing the curious mix of the Norwegian sophisticated modern life and the charming quirks of a lost, simpler time.
The short flight from Amsterdam to the town of Alesund proved that our friend Maria had meant what she said. Copper mountains peppered with tiny azure lakes unfolded to the horizon amid vast, swooping fjords. From our home among the various small islands and peninsulas of the pacific northwest, this landscape felt at once familiar and abundant with opportunities for discovery.
Hotel Union Øye houses so many memories of so many historical notables that you’ll feel intimate with times lost. It opened in 1891, from day one catering to discerning travelers. Kaiser Wilhelm, Queen Maud, Princess Victoria, King Oscar, Karen Blixen, Knut Hamsun, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Edvard Grieg, Henrik Ibsen, William Cecil Slingsby, Roald Amudsen, Kristofer Randers… all fell in love with our country right here, within these walls.
Midsummer Eve is a celebration of nature, life and fertility. Families gather by the fjords and sea with big bonfires and barbecues. The flower crowns are a major part of the outfit and traditionally we make our own while sitting in the field picking our favourite flowers, waiting to celebrate.
Imagine a hotel literally made of the forest of Norway, and then shaped meticulously by our years of experience on the exquisite sophistication of luxury travel. It is a place to marvel at the uniqueness of Norway, facing the deep fjord, facing the steep mountains, rediscovering your own self.
There’s something pleasantly childish about sitting by the window on a plane traveling over a mountain range. The white ripples of the snow-covered mountains are a feast for our plane-weary eyes. As we fly closer to the coast I see the first fjords. The steep mountains drop into the velvety sea and we are left wondering “what next?”.
If you fear that the days of careless travel are over, fear no more - all you need is to choose a destination 62ºNORD. All the things that make us special are the things that will make you safe. Thanks to our geology and geography, we have been secluded, uncrowded, comfort-oriented, welcoming, exclusive for as long as there have been people in these fjords.
