The journey
Where the falls meet the fjord
Spring arrives in Sunnmøre all at once. The snowmelt rushes down from the peaks, waterfalls appear overnight where there were none before, and the valley floors turn a shade of green that feels almost unreal. This is the season when the landscape is at its most alive — and this journey is built around that moment. From the Art Nouveau streets of Ålesund to the forest trails above Storfjord, from a fjord sauna at Union Øye to a helicopter flight over the falls, seven days in the company of a region doing what it does best.

Six days across Sunnmøre
Itinerary
An outline of what awaits – each day shaped around the landscapes, the roads, and the moments that make this journey what it is.

Day 1 — Arrival
Land in Ålesund and settle into Brosundet, at the heart of the city's extraordinary Art Nouveau quarter. An evening guided walk through the historic streets, followed by dinner at Apotekergata 5.

Day 2 — Into the fjord
A cold plunge and sauna to start the morning, then aboard a fjord cruise toward Hjørundfjord with a stop at the remote village of Trandal. The day ends at Union Øye – a historic royal hotel at the head of the valley.

Day 3 — Falls and stillness
E-bike through Norangsdalen valley and its waterfalls in the morning. Back at Union Øye, the fjord sauna and cold plunge await. An afternoon with the sommelier, and dinner in the Conservatory.

Day 4 — Geirangerfjord
A slow ferry passage through UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, waterfalls on either side. Up to Dalsnibba for panoramic views, lunch at Loen Skylift, and through the Norangsdal valley. In the afternoon, take to the skies by helicopter for a final, unforgettable perspective over the fjords.

Day 5 — Into the forest
A morning forest hike, followed by time in the wellness facilities. As evening falls, dinner in the boathouse – one of Storfjord's most atmospheric settings.

Day 6 — Above it all
A slow morning, then a helicopter flight over the waterfalls and fjords – the landscape from above, in full spring flood. Lunch at Heimgar before a final dinner at Storfjord.

Day 7 — Departure
A leisurely morning, then transfer to the airport. The falls will still be running when you leave.

Where you'll stay
Brosundet sits at the heart of Ålesund's Art Nouveau quarter, with views across the sound and the city's distinctive rooflines at every turn — the right place to begin. Union Øye is a 19th-century jewel at the head of the Norangfjord, its rooms steeped in history and its valley floor carpeted in spring green. Storfjord Hotel is a timber-clad forest retreat above the fjord, built around stillness and the kind of calm that only comes after days of movement. We know these properties intimately — their best rooms, their rhythms, and what makes each one worth the journey.

Eat and drink
The season on a plate
Spring is when the kitchen comes into its own. The first wild herbs appear along the valley paths, the rivers run clear from snowmelt, and the shellfish from the cold fjord waters reach their peak. At each hotel, the kitchen works with what's arriving — Nordic cuisine grounded in the season and the landscape around it. Dinner in Union Øye's historic Dining Room, an evening in the Conservatory, a boathouse dinner at Storfjord, and lunch at Heimgar — each setting as memorable as what's on the plate. Union Øye and Storfjord are both Michelin Key recipients and members of Relais & Châteaux.
