The journey
Where the glacier meets the water
Svalbard sits at the top of the world, and Nordenskiöld Lodge sits at the end of it. Reachable only by boat, built directly in front of the glacier that gave it its name, it is one of the most remote places you can sleep in Norway – perhaps anywhere. This journey takes you there: five days that move from the warmth of Longyearbyen out into the Arctic wilderness, with huskies, a glacier, kayaks, and an open horizon waiting along the way.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Arrival
Land in Longyearbyen and settle into Basecamp Hotel. The evening begins at the Trapper's Station with wheeled dog-carting through the Arctic tundra – a gentle introduction to a landscape that is anything but gentle.
Day 2 — Into the wilderness
By boat across open water to Nordenskiöld Lodge. The glacier comes into view long before the lodge does. A wilderness welcome awaits – and the quietest night you may have had in years.
Day 3 — On the ice
A full day in the landscape. Your guide leads you up onto the glacier – a world of blue ice, shifting light, and unexpected scale. Back at the lodge, the kitchen has been at work all day.
Day 4 — Kayak and return
A morning on the water by kayak, paddling past icebergs in the shadow of the peaks. Then by boat back to Longyearbyen, and a final night at Basecamp Hotel.
Day 5 — Departure
A transfer to the airport with your guide with views of the landscape on your way up.

Where you'll stay
Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen is warm, characterful, and well-placed – the right kind of base for a first and last night in Svalbard. Nordenskiöld Lodge is something else entirely: four rooms, eight beds, no roads in or out, and the glacier directly outside the window. It is rustic in the best sense – stripped back to what matters, and built around the landscape rather than apart from it. We know both properties well, and know exactly what makes the lodge worth the boat ride.

At Nordenskiöld Lodge, all meals and drinks are included – and the kitchen takes it seriously. Cured meats, warming broths, Arctic ingredients handled with care and a genuine sense of place. It is the kind of cooking that tastes better because of where you are eating it. Meals at Basecamp Hotel in Longyearbyen are on your own account, with good options close by.
