What do I need to know when crossing the fjords in a ferry?

The ferry system in the fjords of Norway offers regular service to various destinations throughout the year.

Ferries are equipped with amenities such as seating, restrooms, and snack bars, and some have outdoor decks. They are a convenient way to reach remote destinations and offer a unique way to experience the fjords. These ferries are a convenient way to reach remote destinations and a popular choice for both locals and tourists alike. And with no need for reservations, all you have to do is hop on board and enjoy the ride. 7

An exception is the Geiranger ferry which is operated by a private company and as a result, you need to book ahead of time. As a driver on the Drive the Fjord experience the ferry ticket will be arranged by the team at 62NORD.

Can I pay with cash and card?

In Norway, cash is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Most businesses and restaurants only accept card payments, and Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted cards in the country. Debit cards and prepaid cards are also widely accepted, making it easy for travelers to leave their cash at home. However, it's always a good idea to have a little cash on hand in case you encounter a business that does not accept cards. So, don't worry about carrying a wad of cash on your trip to Norway – just make sure you have your preferred card handy and you'll be all set.

What do I need to know to use my electrical equipment?

In Norway, the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz.

Can you advise on tipping?

In Norway, tipping is not a requirement, but it is a thoughtful way to show appreciation for excellent service. If you were pleased with your experience, consider leaving a tip as a token of your gratitude. Here are some suggestions for whom to tip and how much:

  • Guides: Tipping tour guides or drivers is not necessary, but it is a kind gesture to show your appreciation for their services.
  • Drivers: While it is not expected, you may choose to round up the fare or leave a small additional amount for taxi drivers if you were satisfied with the service.
  • Waiters: Tipping in restaurants is not a common practice in Norway, but it is generally appreciated. If you received exceptional service, consider leaving a tip of 10-15% of the total bill.

Remember, the decision to tip is entirely at your discretion and should be based on the quality of service you received. While it is always appreciated, it is never required.
