SKARBØ GARD

62 NORD

Nestled within the breathtaking fjords of Norway, in the Sunnmøre region, lies Skarbø Gard, an apple and cider farm that is a testament to the harmony of tradition and craftsmanship. Recently, our food and beverage team had the privilege of experiencing the unique offerings of Skarbø Gard, a place where the past and present merge to create something truly spectacular.

Owned by Kristine and Carlos, Skarbø Gard is not just any farm; it's an institution that carries the legacy of eight generations. The couple has mastered the art of blending long-standing traditions with solid craftsmanship, providing unforgettable tasting experiences to visitors from across the globe. It’s a place where every sip and bite tells the story of dedication, love for the craft, and a deep connection to the land.

The farm itself is one of the oldest in the area, with a history of more than 1,000 years of continuous cultivation and habitation. This longevity is not just a number; it's a reflection of the sustainable practices and deep respect for nature that have been passed down through generations. The land stretches from the serene fjord up to the summer farm in the mountains, where the cows roam freely in the pastures during the warmer months. The backdrop of Smørhola mountain adds a majestic touch to the already picturesque landscape.

Our team’s journey began with a tour of Skarborgård, where we were introduced to the intricate processes of farming and cider production. It was enlightening to see how the farm operates in harmony with nature, utilizing the apples from their orchards and milk from their own cows to produce exceptional cider and cheese. The emphasis on sustainability and self-sufficiency was evident in every aspect of the farm's operations.

The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the tasting experience. Sitting under the open sky, surrounded by the natural beauty of the fjords, we indulged in a meticulously prepared lunch that showcased the farm’s produce. The cheeses, each with its unique flavor profile, were perfectly complemented by the variety of ciders, ranging from crisp and refreshing to rich and complex. It was a celebration of flavors that spoke volumes of the craftsmanship and dedication of Kristine and Carlos.

But Skarborgård is more than just a farm; it's a reminder of how tradition and modernity can coexist beautifully. It’s a place where every visitor is taken on a journey through time, tasting and experiencing the essence of the Sundmaru region. The farm's commitment to "craftsmanship and tradition in harmony with nature" is not just a tagline; it's a lived philosophy that makes every visit a memorable one.

For those looking to explore the rich culinary heritage of Norway and experience the true essence of farm-to-table dining, Skarborgård offers an unparalleled adventure. It’s a testament to the beauty of the Norwegian fjords, its land's richness, and its people's spirit.
